New funding award

Research on using ultrasound in speech therapy will continue to break new ground thanks to a recent award by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council(EPSRC).

The original “Ultrax” project focussed on using ultrasound to provide visual feedback of mouth movements during speech therapy sessions.  The new project (titled “Ultrax2020: Ultrasound Technology for Optimising the Treatment of Speech Disorders“), aims to take this much further towards real-world deployment in Speech and Language Therapy clinical settings, with the explicit aim of developing tools to support initial diagnosis and objective monitoring of client progress.

A particular strength of the Ultrax2020 project is its close collaboration between partners in the academic sector (University of EdinburghUniversity of Strathclyde), industry (Articulate Instruments Ltd), and the clinical sector (NHS LothianNHS GrampianNHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde).
